Nothing to Report

Many words are called for to express our lack of news.

Here's what we DO know:

Shaun's job still ends April 25.

It turns out that the "opportunity" to move precipitates a lot of exhausting thinking about the proper ordering of one's values. My brain is tired.

Our house has not sold yet. This could be construed as a good thing. If it doesn't sell until the last minute, we can stay in it until the last minute, without any need for creative and inconvenient housing arrangements. So, yay! Right?

In other things we don't know, Willem had a check-up with the cardiologist so we could have all of his ducks in a row before we move. She scheduled an echo cardiogram for him for the first week of April, which will tell us if his aortic valve is performing 1.better 2.worse or 3.the same. The smart money is on #3.

Meanwhile, I've been charged with fattening Willem up by adding butter to his food, stuffing him with cheese, and giving him MILKSHAKES. Fortunately Willem doesn't know what a milkshake is, because that's where I draw the line. Can you imagine the dietary chaos that would ensue from providing one child with unlimited milkshakes? He can have peanut butter and avocados. Sheesh, I'm no nutritionist, but you'd think a cardiologist would have steered us towards more heart-friendly fats.

Ah, well. SOME day Shaun will be offered and accept a new job, our house will sell, and Willem's heart will get better or worse. These things may happen soon, or they may not. But they will happen.

In the meantime, Nels is wearing a quilted vest every waking moment, a gift from his Auntie Kim some time ago. He puts his hands in the pockets and flaps around, pretending to be a bat, or, alternatively, a flying raccoon. Waiting is hard.

I know what you mean about waiting. And good idea to use the peanut butter and avocados instead of the milkshakes!

Oh man. This made me so sad about Willem's little heart. Such a sweet heart that he even says I love you to the door and what not. I read a book about a girl who had a heart problem as a child (fiction, but based on a true story). The artist parents named all the kids in the family after paint colors, and hers was Permanent Rose. The defiant name, in the story, creates a defiant child who turns out to be the strongest character in the family. I bet our Willem will be the same.

Yes, Willem is well on his way toward being the strongest character in the family :)
