I forswore sarcasm in college once I realized it was seriously hindering my development as a person. Is it permissible, though, if used only as a literary device?

Having witnessed the fury of the sarcastic fire once breathed by my beloved during her college days, I can assure you we're all better (and safer) for the forswearing.
