I just checked out the Google maps and figured the narrow section (and also cliff diving)was near Gabriano Is. a bit SE of Nanaimo.

Did you ever see the bathtub races from Nanaimo to Vancouver? They used to fashion fiberglass bathtubs into little boats with outboard motors and race them. They'd really get into it. Guys would dress up in goofy costumes and pound the waves down to Van. - by the time they hit the sand - they could barely stagger up to ring the bell on the beach. Crazy fun...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-67506141510119712.post-29855336076226584342007-07-10T14:23:00.000-07:002007-07-10T14:23:00.000-07:00Well, now, it's a shame that you spent all that ti...Well, now, it's a shame that you spent all that time there and never tasted a Nanaimo bar. We used to get them at the ferry concession stand.Gypmarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13938773894831848124noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-67506141510119712.post-20931899503865040082007-07-10T13:34:00.000-07:002007-07-10T13:34:00.000-07:00Hope today's looking better. Never heard of a Nanaimo Bar - but the pictures look scrumptious!

Gotta love Nanaimo, tho - happy times on the boat with the folks... braving the hazards of the Nanaimo Narrows on the way into & out of the bay. Gotta hit it at slack tide - wicked currents. During my Sailing Beyond summer, we cliff dove near Nanaimo - scariest (stupidest?) thing I've ever done! They have a cool kind of bowling there, too - smaller, lighter ball - about 6 in. diameter - fun. And ... the hometown of Diana Krall... what a place! Gotta look for a Nanaimo Bar ... perhaps Starbucks?

Glad to hear the good news about the job.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
